We welcome you as a member of the Napotel Pension Fund. The objective of the Fund is to provide you, and your dependants, with the best possible benefits.

The Fund was established with effect from 1 April 1994. From 1 October 1997, the retirement funding method of the Fund changed from a defined benefit method to a defined contribution method.

To ensure that all members of the Fund receive the benefits to which they are entitled, there are various rules governing the management and operation of the Fund. These rules cover such things as eligibility for membership, payment of contributions and payment of benefits.

The objective of this information is to explain the Fund structures and benefits in an easy-to-read manner. It is not intended to replace the Rules of the Fund. Should there be any statement herein that conflicts with the Fund Rules, the Rules will prevail. Every effort has been made to ensure that the information contained herein is current and correct. The benefits described are subject to the applicable tax legislation at the time the benefit is paid. It is therefore important to obtain advice from a reputable financial advisor when planning your retirement.

Management of the Fund

The Fund is a privately administered fund and is subject to the provisions of the Pension Funds Act of 1956, as amended, as well as the Income Tax Act, and the relevant regulations of both. The Fund is a separate legal entity to the Telecom Namibia and Namibia Post and its subsidiaries and is registered by the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority (reference number 25/7/7/301) and approved by the Ministry of Finance.

The Board of Trustees

The Fund is managed by the Board which is established in accordance with the Fund’s rules and Pension Funds Act. The Board consists of 11 individuals. Five Trustees are appointed by the Participating Employers, five are appointed by the Bargaining Agent and one independent trustee is appointed by the Board of Trustees.

The Board is the ultimate decision-making body. To fulfil its duties and responsibilities on a day-to-day basis, the Board appoints service providers to assist with the management of the Fund as well as to advise on how to keep abreast with the changes in the pension fund industry.
